Color and Curiosity: My Solo Show Opens!

Colorful abstrat paintings by artist Kay Hand on display at the Arts Center of Brazos Valley during her solo show Color and Curiosity.

Big news, friends—my solo show Color and Curiosity is officially open at the Arts Center of Brazos Valley! From August 12 through October 4, you can wander through my newest paintings and see what happens when color gets bold, playful, and maybe unpredictable. I’ll share a couple of photos here so you can get a peek, but trust me—paint looks better in person than it ever does on a screen. (And no, that’s not just artist bias. Okay…maybe it is.)

Behind the Scenes (aka Real Live)

Preparing for the solo art show - paintings by Kay Hand carefully loaded into the car for transport to the Arts Center of the Brazos Valley.

Getting ready for a show isn’t all spotlights and champagne—it’s more like a cross between moving day and a circus act.

  • The car turns into a game of painting Tetris.

  • You double-check (and triple-check) that you didn’t forget one.

  • There’s always that moment of “will they all actually fit?”

But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The messy parts make the shiny gallery moments sweeter.

In the Studio

When I’m not playing car-Tetris with paintings, I’m back in the studio chasing new ideas. Lately I’m obsessed with bold color conversations—cobalt next to coral, chartreuse squabbling with turquoise. The canvases argue, flirt, and sometimes stage a full-on drama, and I just try to keep up with the story.

Bella the dog keeping watch in the studio while artist Kay Hand works on bold abstract paintings.

And of course, Bella supervises from her favorite spot, making sure I don’t take myself too seriously. (Pro tip: A wagging tail is the best studio assistant you can have.)

Come See for Yourself

If you’re in College Station, come wander through Color and Curiosity at the Arts Center of Brazos Valley. If you’re not nearby, you can still follow along on my Instagram or website—I’ll keep sharing little glimpses of what’s happening.

Curiosity looks good on everyone, promise.
